Aloha Ohana, we experienced a frightening night yesterday in our household. We awoke in the middle of the night to find gas surrounding our cabin and filling our home. It smelled like super strong chemicals and methane or propane, burning the throat. We had to shut all windows in our small cabin. Several residents in the area are reporting various symptoms today due to the "flow testing." ⚠️ Deadly unmonitored "flow testing" made many people sick yesterday 063026 throughout today on Hawaii Island.:
At 1 a.m., I awoke to a powerful and overwhelming smell of gas permeating my home and yard. We were frightened. Although we should have called 911, the years of mockery by the authorities and the endless runarounds during PGV gassing emergencies have caused such significant trauma that it feels almost physically impossible to reach out for help from those who cover it up. This video demonstrates precisely what geothermal flow testing and the uncontrolled release of deadly H2S and toxic steam look like in real time.
Unpermitted and unregulated geothermal operations are happening in the yards of hundreds of residents in the Lower East Rift Zone of Kīlauea Volcano on Hawaii Island (which they recently conveniently changed to KERZ due to the awareness being raised).
For decades, people have suffered and there have been numerous deaths linked to geothermal in our neighborhoods. Since Ormat/PGV began illegally expanding, the problems have gotten much worse. The community — along with two volcano scientists — has proven in court the decades of lies, misreporting to the government and USGS, and the irreversible ecological damage, especially since the 2018 eruption. This led to an unprecedented Hawaii geothermal injunction led by my mom, Sara Steiner.
Our community has become a toxic geothermal volcanic wasteland that continues to poison us. Neither the state nor the county is monitoring it. That’s why Sara also filed the Hawaii Geothermal Rulemaking Lawsuit — we are currently awaiting the judge’s written decision.
