Puna, Hawaii

History of Puna Hawaii:

For centuries, Puna has been revered as a sacred place, deeply ingrained in Hawaiian spirituality and mythology. According to legend, Puna is the home of Pele, the goddess of fire and volcanoes, who is said to reside within the fiery depths of Kilauea Volcano. IMAGES OF OLD HAWAII: PUNA

Sharing one of my personal favorite places to go for images and research: Images of Old Hawaii and its Puna Section! "Puna was once known for its groves of hala and Ê»oÌ„hiÊ»a-lehua trees. Hawaiians observed, “Ka ua moaniani lehua o Puna / The rain that brings the fragrance of the lehua of Puna”.This Ê»oÌ„lelo noÊ»eau refers to the forests of Puna, which attract clouds to drench the district with many rains, refreshing and enriching the Puna water table, and sustaining the life cycle of all living things in Puna."
